The “Aktia”, rooted in the games established by Augustus after the naval Battle of Actium, are revived in early September as cultural and sporting events that close the town’s cultural summer.
Part of the Nikopoleia, on the first weekend of August Preveza celebrates the Sardine Festival in the courtyard of Agios Andreas castle. Tons of sardines are grilled and wine is served, drawing thousands of visitors each year — one of the most popular folk feasts in Epirus.
The “Nikopoleia” is Preveza’s flagship series of cultural events, running from summer into early September. It features theatre performances, music nights, painting and photography exhibitions, echoing the legacy of ancient Nikopolis.
One of the country’s foremost choral events, the International Choral Festival gathers choirs from around the world each July for concerts and an exchange of musical traditions.
Now a fixture of the local calendar, the Preveza Jazz Festival brings Greek and international jazz musicians to the seaside town, with concerts in open-air venues near the waterfront.
Music Day is celebrated every June across the squares and streets of Preveza, with open-air concerts and ensembles of every genre. A festival open to everyone, at the heart of summer.
